industrial servo motor

An industrial servo motor inquiry is useful when the axis sits on a production line rather than on a laboratory bench. Upstream and downstream machines set the available footprint, the PLC interface names and the ambient temperature around the motor. This page explains how those operating contexts change selection; it does not certify a cell layout. Feedback and commutation must match the installed drive before a mechanically similar motor is treated as interchangeable.

Line interfaces

Operating context
Typical US buyer settings include packaging, metal forming and general machine-tool axes where an industrial servo motor must hold positioning tolerance while the line continues. Confirm whether the axis is replacement-in-place or a new station. Work envelope, footprint and three-phase supply at the cabinet are line data; they are not inferred from motor flange size. Compressed air demand is usually irrelevant unless a pneumatic brake or clutch is in the same station. Cooling water is relevant only if a cooled drive module is quoted.

Line interfaces: Equipment scope

Write the mechanical interface (flange, shaft, coupling or gearbox) and the electrical interface (DC link in VDC, current in Arms, encoder protocol, thermal I/O). Name the upstream machine that starts the move and the downstream station that must see the part in position. Representative production samples, if the axis handles a changing fixture mass, belong in the RFQ so inertia is not guessed from an empty fixture. Changeover between recipes should list which cables and parameter sets are swapped.

Price exclusions

Guides that carry side load, machine-base machining, cable drag chains, cabinet expansion, installation and SAT witness sit outside a motor-and-drive pair until listed. Tooling for a new fixture is a process cost, not a silent motor accessory. Spare parts such as extra encoders remain support lines. No installed-project percentage is published against a machine-only price.

Remaining questions: How does the proposed application affect industrial servo motor selection when fixture mass changes? Which upstream and downstream interfaces must be confirmed on the same drawing? FAT language should repeat the agreed motion cycle, not a no-load spin. Connected load in kW is requested when the cabinet is in the purchase. Throughput of the parent line is useful context but does not replace axis inertia.
